Darrell Carpenter is a newcomer to showing his work at the Corner Gallery. Sometimes one of the Corner Gallery artists knows and admires an artist and features that person on their own wall as a gesture of that admiration. This is one of those times for member Kathleen Gordon-Burke, who is clearly blown away by Darrell's creations. Kathleen comments, "Darrell calls his technique 'mixed media collage' but it is so much more to my mind. All of Darrell's art could be patterns on fabric, wallpaper, puzzles, carpets. It is so vibrant... I have never seen art like this!"
Darrell describes his own process, "I have this strange obsession, I have to make things. I only feel alive when I am in my studio making things. Most of my works are loosely based on drawings I have made... I say loosely because the drawings are just a starting point. A scrap of paper on the studio floor can take a work in a totally different direction. Things happen in the studio, time seems to stop, pieces develop. I am just along for the ride.
