Art Center Ukiah Themes Jan-June 2026

Jan- MMIP (Corine in charge)

Corine Pearce has been doing art with fellow Indigenous people over the past year to address the tragedy of MMIP (Missing and Murdered Indigenous People). This crisis in native communities across the US and Canada disproportionally affects women and girls, and this community art project is one way for affected relatives and friends to process and call attention to the issue. This project is the result of a grant through Pinoleville Pomo Nation.

This show is open to the public, with a priority for Indigenous representation. For the general public, there is a $10 fee for each entry (limit of 3), with checks made out to Art Center Ukiah. Completed entry forms and all ready-to-hang work (NO sawtooth hangers) must be delivered for jurying to the Corner Gallery (201 S State St in Ukiah) on Tuesday December 30between 11 and 5 or on Wednesday December 31 between 11 and noon. Artists are encouraged to email photos of their submissions to acuentries@yahoo.com by the second week of November for possible inclusion in the publicity for the show. Entry fee check will be returned with any work not accepted in the show.

All unsold work must be picked up from the gallery at the end of the show on Saturday January 31 or Tuesday February 3, 11-5.

The First Friday opening of this show is January 2, from 5-8pm.

Feb- Beauty in the Beast- Jacquie in charge, Marilynn and Darrell assisting

People and animals have coexisted on this planet for eons, and we have grown to respect, admire and love our non-human pets and neighbors. Whether the ‘beasts’ crawl, swim, fly, climb or run, there are endless ways to appreciate and admire them.

Art in any medium is welcome, as are representations of any kind of animal that moves you to take up this challenge to focus on the beauty that you see in them.

Open to all Mendocino and Lake County residents, $10 fee for each entry (limit of 3), with checks made out to Art Center Ukiah. Completed entry forms and all ready-to-hang work (NO sawtooth hangers) must be delivered for jurying to the Corner Gallery (201 S State St in Ukiah) on Tuesday February 3 between 11 and 5 or on Wednesday February 4 between 11 and noon. Artists are encouraged to email photos of their submissions to acuentries@yahoo.com by the second week of January for possible inclusion in the publicity for the show. Entry fee check will be returned with any work not accepted in the show.

March- A Thousand Shades of Green - Katie in charge?

Our Mendocino County spring is at its greenest in March, with new growth and flowers springing up everywhere you look. Green can be seen in other landscapes as well, realistic or abstract. What else do you see or imagine that is green?

We encourage artists to explore the color green in any medium, using any subject matter and any technique. This doesn’t need to be just landscapes… think strange green critters, green with envy, the Green Party. Anything goes… just make it GREEN!

April- Starry Night- Susan in charge, Laura helping

Artists are challenged to use this famous painting by Vincent VanGogh as their inspiration to create a new piece that is totally their own work… as opposed to a copy. Take all of it or part of it, run it through your own blender of skills, style and personal experience, and show us what fantastic interpretation you come up with. Change it to a new medium, make it even more abstract, turn it into a message… it’s up to you.

We hope to see work in a vast array of mediums and styles. Make it silly, make it serious, make it strange, make it wonderful… make it YOURS. Help us create a show that will stop people in their tracks and see the starry night in a new light.

Open to all Mendocino and Lake County residents, $10 fee for each entry (limit of 3), with checks made out to Art Center Ukiah. Completed entry forms and all ready-to-hang work (NO sawtooth hangers) must be delivered for jurying to the Corner Gallery (201 S State St in Ukiah) on Tuesday March 31 between 11 and 5 or on Wednesday April 1 between 11 and noon. Artists are encouraged to email photos of their submissions to acuentries@yahoo.com by the second week of March for possible inclusion in the publicity for the show. Entry fee check will be returned with any work not accepted in the show.

The concept of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) is being challenged in many venues these days, and we want to emphasize that ALL are welcome here in our Ukiah gallery. We want to emphasizes the importance of recognizing and honoring a range of backgrounds and experiences, ensuring fair treatment for all, fostering a sense of welcoming and belonging for all, and providing equitable access to opportunities and resources.

How are you or people you know affected by discrimination? Are you accepted and included for who you are, or are there issues that need to be confronted? Can we do better? How can you represent your experience through your art?
