Long Versions

                                          June - WE ALL BELONG

The concept of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) is being challenged in many venues these days, and we want to emphasize that ALL are welcome here in our Ukiah gallery. We want to emphasize the importance of recognizing and honoring a range of backgrounds and experiences, ensuring fair treatment for all, fostering a sense of welcoming and belonging for all, and providing equitable access to opportunities and resources.

How are you or people you know affected by discrimination? Are you accepted and included for who you are, or are there issues that need to be confronted? Can we do better? How can you represent your experience through your art?

Open to all Mendocino and Lake County residents, $10 fee for each entry (limit of 3), with checks made out to Art Center Ukiah. Fee is optional for students. Completed entry forms and all ready-to-hang work (NO sawtooth hangers) must be delivered for jurying to the Corner Gallery (201 S State St in Ukiah) on Tuesday June 2 between 11 and 5 or on Wednesday June 3 between 11 and noon. Artists are encouraged to email photos of their submissions to acuentries@yahoo.com by the second week of May for possible inclusion in the publicity for the show. Entry fee check will be returned with any work not accepted in the show.

All unsold work must be picked up from the gallery at the end of the show on Saturday June 27 or Tuesday June 30, 11-5.

The First Friday opening of this show is June 5, from 5-8pm.

                                             July - Standing Strong

July 4th of this year will be the 250th anniversary of United States as a nation. What does that mean to you in relation to the people who were here first, all that we Americans have gone through in our past, our current situation of extreme divisiveness, or our future? Who do you stand with, what do you stand strong for, how do you show up, and in what way do you express that through your art?

We are looking for lots of creative ways to address the theme of Standing Strong. Work created by a single artist or multiple artists in collaboration, in any medium, representational or abstract will be considered. We are looking for a wide variety of both stories and storytellers.

Open to all Mendocino and Lake County residents, $10 fee for each entry (limit of 3), with checks made out to Art Center Ukiah. Fee is optional for students. Completed entry forms and all ready-to-hang work (NO sawtooth hangers) must be delivered for jurying to the Corner Gallery (201 S State St in Ukiah) on Tuesday June 30 between 11 and 5 or on Wednesday July 1 between 11 and noon. Artists are encouraged to email photos of their submissions to acuentries@yahoo.com by the first week of June for possible inclusion in the publicity for the show. Entry fee check will be returned with any work not accepted in the show.

All unsold work must be picked up from the gallery at the end of the show on Saturday August 1 or Tuesday August 4, 11-5.

The First Friday opening of this show is July 3, from 5-8pm.

                                                 August - Portals

Windows, doors and gates are the physical portals through which we enter or view another space or realm. Some are bright and new; others are beat up and worn with age. Portals can be mystical, magical or otherworldly as well. Does a particular portal beckon you to come in, or does it create a barrier to keep you out?

Work can be in any medium, embrace any technique, and be of any size. Two and three-dimensional work is encouraged.

Open to all Mendocino and Lake County residents, $10 fee for each entry (limit of 3), with checks made out to Art Center Ukiah. Fee is optional for students. Completed entry forms and all ready-to-hang work (NO sawtooth hangers) must be delivered for jurying to the Corner Gallery (201 S State St in Ukiah) on Tuesday August 4 between 11 and 5 or on Wednesday August 5 between 11 and noon. Artists are encouraged to email photos of their submissions to acuentries@yahoo.com by the first week of July for possible inclusion in the publicity for the show. Entry fee check will be returned with any work not accepted in the show.

All unsold work must be picked up from the gallery at the end of the show on Saturday August 29 or Tuesday September 1, 11-5.

The First Friday opening of this show is August 7, from 5-8pm.

                                September - Iconic Mendocino County

Mendocino County is known world-wide for iconic views of its wild ocean, majestic redwoods and scrappy little towns that have barely changed since the demise of the logging industry. What else makes you think of our huge and varied county… the wine industry, old barns associated with waning apple and pear orchards, historic Vichy Springs, the Skunk Train, the Back-to-the-Land movement or whale watching off our windy bluffs? Everywhere you look there is another iconic image waiting to be captured on canvas.

We are hoping for your best landscapes, seascapes and town scenes. Any medium will do… just embrace it and show us the magic that you see right here in our very own county.

Open to all Mendocino and Lake County residents, $10 fee for each entry (limit of 3), with checks made out to Art Center Ukiah. Fee is optional for students. Completed entry forms and all ready-to-hang work (NO sawtooth hangers) must be delivered for jurying to the Corner Gallery (201 S State St in Ukiah) on Tuesday September 1 between 11 and 5 or on Wednesday September 2 between 11 and noon. Artists are encouraged to email photos of their submissions to acuentries@yahoo.com by the first week of August for possible inclusion in the publicity for the show. Entry fee check will be returned with any work not accepted in the show.

All unsold work must be picked up from the gallery at the end of the show on Saturday September 26 or Tuesday September 29, 11-5.

The First Friday opening of this show is September 4, from 5-8pm.

                                                October - Texture

Texture can be an end unto itself, or an aspect of a work that embraces multiple mediums and any variety of subject matter. Think of the multi-textured surface of encaustic, weaving, ceramics or felting… or even paint that is applied with a palette knife or thickly with a brush. The illusion of texture can also be conveyed in a flat medium like photography or painting. The possibilities are endless.

This theme might call most loudly to the non-objective and abstract artists out there, but we are also open to works that are representational… they just have to focus on TEXTURE!

Open to all Mendocino and Lake County residents, $10 fee for each entry (limit of 3), with checks made out to Art Center Ukiah. Fee is optional for students. Completed entry forms and all ready-to-hang work (NO sawtooth hangers) must be delivered for jurying to the Corner Gallery (201 S State St in Ukiah) on Tuesday September 29 between 11 and 5 or on Wednesday September 30 between 11 and noon. Artists are encouraged to email photos of their submissions to acuentries@yahoo.com by the first week of September for possible inclusion in the publicity for the show. Entry fee check will be returned with any work not accepted in the show.

All unsold work must be picked up from the gallery at the end of the show on Saturday October 31 or Tuesday November 3, 11-5.

The First Friday opening of this show is October 2, from 5-8pm.

                                          November - Quick Draw

Quick Draw is by invitation only. This event is a proven crowd favorite, and it will return to ACU for another whirl this year. Participating artists will set up their easels on First Friday and draw live models throughout the evening. It’s a special opportunity for members of the public to witness the process of talented artists creating a likeness of a person from start to finish. The participating artists will all have finished examples of their work up on the walls, in addition to the sketches they create during the evening.

The First Friday opening of this show is November 6, from 5-8pm.
