Great Outdoors in Infrared
by
James Eldridge
Born in beautiful upstate NY, I have always had a love for the outdoors and the art of discovery. I am in my element when trying to capture the magic of a new place with my camera. Having survived throat cancer in 2013, I believe God has called me to be a witness for Him through the gift of photography. My passion for digital photography is only one of my loves. Traveling with my wonderful wife, making new friends and eating all kinds of foods are my other passions. My travels have taken me to five continents and numerous countries. I was introduced to digital photography in 1998 when a friend returned from China and loaned me a point and shoot digital camera. Since then I have been through 8 generations of Canon SLR cameras. My interest in Infrared photography started after taking a class from George Lepp, one of the greatest outdoor photography instructors. There are so many possibilities with Infrared photography, (which is black and white on steroids). My wife and I are now living in beautiful Mendocino county where there is so much diversity. There is never a lack of things to photograph. Hope you enjoy the photographs.
Having been a digital photographer for a number of years I found digital Infrared a new and exciting way to look at black and white photos. The extreme contrast of tonal values from pure white to pure black comes alive when photographing trees, clouds, water and sky in Infrared. The goal of my art is for someone to be enchanted by the wonder of the surreal world of Infrared that is not visible by the naked eye.
