July 4th of this year will be the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States as a nation. Art Center Ukiah sees that milestone as a perfect inspiration to host a display of art that reflects how people in our community respond creatively to the concept of ‘Standing Strong.’ 

“What does this anniversary mean to you?” asks show organizer Darrell Carpenter. “There are so many issues to address,” he continues. “Look at all that Americans have gone through since Europeans first immigrated here, and what has happened over the centuries to the people who were here first. Then there is our current situation of extreme divisiveness, and so many questions about what will happen in our future. Who do you stand with, what do you stand strong for, how do you show up, and in what way do you express your convictions through your art?”

“We want to see lots of creative ways to address these issues,” Darrell continues. We are looking for a wide variety of both stories and storytellers in an attempt to present a broad picture that reflects the thoughts of the people who live here.”
