Local artist Holly Brackmann will exhibit her ‘Threadlines,’ series in the front windows of the Corner Gallery.  A collection of twelve contemporary art embroideries and collages, the pieces were created from repurposed antique linen, fabric scraps and heirloom family photos transferred to fabric. Brackmann then embellished each piece with hand-embroidered poetry and prose.  These small-sized pieces offer the viewer an overall impression from a distance, and then an intimate reflection while looking more closely at the stitching and pondering the text.

Brackmann created this series over the course of a year. “I was enrolled in an online class taught by a French couture embroiderer,” she explains. “Each month the students from all over the world received a subject prompt from the instructor, which we would respond to through the use of embroidery. The class was more about the thought process than any special technique.” Brackmann responded in her own way to each of the prompts and created a dozen original images, with the addition of prose or a poem that she hand embroidered onto the linen background. Her chosen quotes ranged from Maya Angelou to Mark Twain to her own personal writing.
