Satoko is a native of Japan, and met her husband in New Zealand. He persuaded her to continue her art in this country, where they now share a home in Mendocino County, California. She obtained her bachelors degree in studio art at Sonoma State University.
“I’m drawn to functional work because of its intimacy with the user. The notion that my creation becomes part of somebody’s life, being touched by his/her hands and lips inspires me. The idea that my work is enriching somebody’s everyday rituals, like eating, drinking, serving and entertaining motivates me.
