Corner Gallery Ukiah
Virginia Macintosh
Virginia Macintosh is an oil painter who has shown many times at the Corner Gallery. She excels at animated, small paintings of animals and especially birds, landscapes form Mendocino County as well a her travels abroad. Her scenes of water are always extraordinary.
I think I would describe my work as a loose form of realism. I look for images that suit my style and that have a unique character: landscapes, birds, people, water, even the light on the side of a building. I have a special interest in Fort Bragg, with its curious mix of historic and modern, along with its wonderful harbor where I can always find inspiration. As a “birder”, I delight in exotics, and have three of them in the show. There is also an early painting of my sister as a child, with her head covered in bougainvilleas. The delight in painting it inspired much of my subsequent work.
