JUNE'S Entry is FREE (donations are welcome)

"Art is Essential"

June 4th-27th, 2020

What have you been creating during these months of sheltering in place and social distancing?

Whether your time at home was a chance to finish something that was shelved ages ago, a pull to explore your feelings about the pandemic, or an opportunity to tackle your masterpiece,

we guess that you have been doing something creative with all the hours.

There is no charge to enter this show, though donations to Art Center Ukiah will be most welcome. There will be no First Friday, and the gallery will only be open Thursdays through Saturdays, but this will still be an opportunity to share your recent work and demonstrate to Ukiah residents that Art is Essential.

All work must be delivered, ready to hang, to the Corner Gallery (201 S State St) between noon and 2pm on Wednesday June 3rd. Entry forms are to be filled out at that time. Unsold work will be picked up at the gallery on Saturday, June 27th between 11 and 5.

Please be aware there maybe changes as we go through the COVID-19 re-opening process.

The expressions on our faces are the first impression we make on other people, and our eyes are believed to be windows to our souls. Artists have always been fascinated with human portraiture, depicting everyone from deities, royalty and politicians to family members, working

folk and the down-and-out... from all cultures around the globe. Here is your chance to show us what you see in another... a famous, political, iconic or completely random individual. All media are encouraged, both two and three-dimensional.

Wild and Wooly

This show will focus exclusively on art made from wool, preferably locally produced wool. Over the years we in Mendocino County have enjoyed many demonstrations of sheep shearing and yarn spinning, but we have not had so many opportunities to explore and display the multiple art forms that can incorporate wool... felting, weaving, basket making and quilting to name a few. And now we have the additional bonus of the Mendocino Wool and Fiber mill right here in Ukiah... so let's celebrate them and their beautiful products. Use your imagination and skill to create art of any size and dimension.

Open to all Mendocino and Lake County residents, $25 fee for the first entry, $10 for each subsequent entry, with checks made out to Art Center Ukiah. Completed entry forms and all ready-to-hang work (NO sawtooth hangers) must be delivered for jurying to the Corner Gallery (201 S State St in Ukiah) no later than noon on Wednesday November 4th. All unsold work must be picked up from the gallery at the end of the show on Tuesday, December 1st.

Little Miracles and Tiny Treasures

The best things sometimes come in small packages. And small packages are perfect for holiday gift giving. Everything on display this month will be part of our Holiday Market, so we are looking for small, affordable pieces of magic to create a lavish display of jewelry, woodcraft, scarves,

woven articles, whimsical ornaments, glassware, ceramics and small paintings to delight the shoppers and make them glad they stayed in Ukiah to make their purchases.

Open to all Mendocino and Lake County residents, $10 fee for the first single-item entry, $5 for each subsequent single-item entry, with checks made out to Art Center Ukiah. For jewelry and very small pieces: multiple items may be displayed for a $25 entry fee on a board or frame that is a maximum of 16" x 24", ready for hanging. Larger displays will be charged as multiple entries. Artists can supply their own display, or contact the gallery to borrow a framed piece of foam core. There is also the possibility of reserving a shelf in our jewelry case for $25 per shelf (gallery phone 462-1400).

Completed entry forms and all ready-to-hang work (NO sawtooth hangers) must be delivered for jurying to the Corner Gallery (201 S State St in Ukiah) no later than noon on Wednesday, December 2, 2020. Artists are encouraged to email photos of their submissions to acuentries@yahoo.com by the middle of November for possible inclusion in the publicity for the show. A refund will be given to the artist for any work not accepted in the show. The First Friday show opening is December 4 from 5-8pm.
