Guest Artist, Holly Cratty, Retrospective Exhibit ;

"Remembrance of Holly Cratty"

We are honored to present a retrospective of the work of our former member Holly Cratty who passed away October 13, 2012.  Philosopher, poet and painter.

Reception: Friday, March 1st, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m.  Exhibit through March 30th

The exhibit at the Corner Gallery, Opening event on the First Friday Art Walk, 3/1/2013 and showing through March, is expected to be the last large exhibition of Holly’s work.  The exhibit will include a range of work in a range of styles:  some intensely abstract colorfield pieces from Holly’s first gallery show, some very recent smaller abstracts, some larger works from studies in the relativity of the color mauve (which were never before publicly exhibited), perhaps a few pieces inspired by the experience of jazz music and some of her most well-known abstracted landscapes and seascape, which she dubbed “innerscapes.”  The latter category are rare because, although she painted a great many of them over the years, almost all of them had been sold though her various galleries at the time of her passing.  Most of the remaining unsold “innerscapes” will be included in the exhibit.

Holly's Artist Statement: My work focuses on (and most often celebrates) subjects such as trees or the forces of nature. The connections between human consciousness and the natural world are of particular interest to me. I frequently use organic color fields in my work, which express some of the salient qualities of a given plant form or natural force as I experience them. My work is my offering to the Sacred, which I believe imbues and supports the entirety of creation.
